Some important new health reform provisions that may benefit you and your family begin Sept. 23. We’d like you to tell us about how these new provisions are affecting you so we can make sure you get the most out of health reform.

Better coverage for kids and young adults

  • It used to be at most jobs that your children could only stay on your health insurance if they were enrolled in school or lived at home. Now, young adults up to the age of 26 can remain on their parents’ policies. As soon as your new insurance plan year begins – often in January – you can keep your children on your policy.

Let us know if you intend to take advantage of this benefit, or what you’ve experienced trying to enroll older children. Or, if you’re a young adult without insurance, tell us how this change will help you.

  • Insurers also used to routinely deny coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. This was especially burdensome for parents with very sick children. Now, insurers will be prohibited from denying coverage to children 18 and under with a pre-existing condition, or dropping their coverage once they get sick.
If you are a parent who has had to deal with an insurance company nightmare because of your child’s medical condition, please tell us about it below. Your experience helps us get the most for consumers from the new health reform law

Please provide your contact information (which we will not share with anyone) so we can learn more details about your story, if needed.
